Causes and Solutions of Typical Problems in Tailored Laser Welding

Laser Welding Machine

1. Welding porosity problem

reason:

a. The welding shielding gas is impure (solution: replace the gas with higher purity)

b. The position of the welding shielding gas is wrong (solution: adjust the blowing angle and height position of the copper pipe)

c. The flow rate of welding shielding gas is inappropriate (solution: adjust the flow rate of shielding gas)

d. There are oil stains, water vapor or impurities on the surface of the plate (solution: clean the surface of the welding seam of the plate)


2. Welding arc break problem

reason:

a. Inappropriate welding parameters (solution: adjust welding power, speed, focus, shielding gas and other parameters to appropriate values)

b. The outer optical path lens is polluted (solution: check and clean the outer optical path lens)

c. The internal lens of the laser is polluted (solution: check and clean the internal optical path lens)


3. There are particles on the surface of the weld or the weld is unevenly formed

reason:

a. The welding shielding gas is impure (solution: replace the gas with higher purity)

b. The position of the welding shielding gas is wrong (solution: adjust the blowing angle and height position of the copper pipe)

c. The flow rate of welding shielding gas is inappropriate (solution: adjust the flow rate of shielding gas)

d. There are oil stains, water vapor or impurities on the surface of the plate (solution: clean the surface of the welding seam of the plate)


4. Welding seam misalignment

reason:

a. The flatness of the sheet is inconsistent after fine cutting (solution: check the flatness of the sheet)

b. The welding platform is not flat (solution: check and clean the platform for welding slag)


5. Welds are biased to one side of the sheet

reason:

a. The extrusion coordinate value is too large when seaming (solution: adjust the extrusion coordinate value of the appropriate seam)

b. The laser is deflected to one side during welding (solution: adjust the appropriate value of the laser to the weld during welding)


6. The problem of local narrowing of the weld

reason:

a. The gap value is too large when the seam is seamed (solution: adjust the appropriate seam extrusion coordinate value or replace the qualified plate)

b. The laser is biased to the side of the thin plate during welding (solution: adjust the appropriate value of the laser to the weld during welding)


7. The weld is not penetrated

Reason: 

Inappropriate process parameters during welding (power is too low, speed is too fast, defocus is too large, etc.)


8. Weld burn through

reason:

a. Inappropriate process parameters during welding (too high power, too slow speed, too small defocus, etc.)

b. The laser is biased to the side of the thin plate during welding (solution: adjust the appropriate value of the laser to the weld during welding)
