Causes of Cracks in Laser Welding Processing and Solutions

How does laser welding prevent the generation of cracks? 

Electric welding cracks are a relatively serious disadvantage. As a result, the destructive links of the organization gradually cracked. In the whole process of electric welding, take all response measures to avoid cracks. After electric welding, use various methods to check the cracks. Once the crack is detected, it will be carried out later. Electric welding cracks are divided into red hot cracks and cold cracks.

The whole process of electric welding welding metal material from liquid to solid crystal becomes cracks called thermal cracks. The cause of thermal cracks is the presence of low melting point residues in the electric welding bath. Due to the low melting point of this kind of residue, the crystallization freezes relatively late, the ductility after freezing is low compressive strength, and the low melting point residue in the melting pool will be opened during the whole freezing process, or It was opened shortly after freezing, causing cracks between the crystals. When the weldment contains a lot of residue, it is also prone to thermal cracking.


The countermeasures for laser welding to avoid thermal cracking are:

1. Strictly control the important parameters of welding skills, reduce the cooling rate, moderately increase the welding appearance index of electric welding, and even use low-current double-layer and multi-pass electric welding to prevent electric welding from cracks.

2. Seriously implement the process regulations, and screen effective electric welding welding procedures to reduce electric welding stress.

After the refrigeration or refrigeration welding of metal materials, the cracks produced on the original material or the welding net between the original material and the welding are called cold cracks. Cold cracking generally means that the welding temperature drops to the limit of the austenite change temperature (less than 300-200°C) during the entire refrigeration process. It can happen immediately after electric welding, or it can happen forever after electric welding. As a result, it is also called time-delayed cracking.


The countermeasures for laser welding to avoid cold cracking are:

1. Use low-hydrogen welding wire to reduce the dispersible hydrogen content during welding.

2. Strictly implement the storage, baking and use of system software of soldering materials (welding wire, soldering paste), and pay attention to waterproofing.

3. Carefully remove the oil, water and rust on the edge of the concave groove to reduce the hydrogen source.

4. Use effective electric welding procedures, and select reverse welding by section, etc., to reduce the stress of electric welding.
